Chipping Norton Organics - About Us

	Our aim at Chipping Norton Organics is to supply an individually tailored box of fresh organic produce to each of our customers which will suit their weekly needs.
	We started small in 1992 and we are still a small local business. We like the idea that we know our customers and that they know us and trust us - some have supported us right from the beginning. We were selling fresh organic fruit and veg long before the multinationals, supermarkets or nationwide delivery services. We think that, over the years, we have learned a thing or two about quality, local commitment and personal service and we are proud of what we do.
	Looking round at the local landscape we see mostly crops of cereal and oilseed rape, a few cattle and sheep, but not much in the way of fruit and vegetables. We have to look further afield for our supplies. Our main supplier is a cooperative of organic farmers and growers in the Hereford area, where there is one of the largest concentrations of organic farmers and growers in the UK. We like the quality of their produce, their reliability and their commitment to organic principles.
	We also deal regularly with two or three organic wholesalers and some more local independent organic growers to make sure we have continuity of supply and a wide range of produce for our customers to choose from. As the business has grown, our principles have remained unchanged: Buy local when available Buy UK produce whenever possibe Take full advantage of seasonal crops by working with growers to ensure we use their produce when it is at it’s best Use imported produce only to fill in gaps keeping food miles to the minimum possible Never to use air freighted produce Most of our vegetable supply is UK produce and we have good supplies of local apples and some summer and autumn fruits, but UK grown fruit is in short supply and we have to use a lot of imports - particularly bananas and oranges, funnily enough! We think that supplying food is a very personal thing; what could be more important than what we eat? We want to deliver food that you will enjoy, but there is more to it than that. We want you to know that when you buy from us you are not only doing the best you can for your own health, you are also contributing to the well-being of the land, and the animals and plants that we share it with, and supporting local and UK organic farmers and growers.
